Ryan Killman is the owner and sole proprietor of Shades or Shutters Medic, an independent, owner-operated window treatment company serving Tomball, Spring, The Woodlands, Cypress, Magnolia, Katy, and the Greater Houston area. With hands-on experience dating back to 1997, Ryan brings decades of trade knowledge to custom window treatments, installation, and repair service.
Ryan began hanging window coverings at 17 years old, working after school and during the summers as a subcontractor in northwest Houston. He learned the trade through mini blinds, vertical blinds, and two-inch wood blinds before expanding into custom shutters, shades, drapery, artwork hanging, and early flat-screen television installs.
After graduating high school in 1999, Ryan worked as an independent contractor for interior design studios across northwest Houston, including Select Window, Charla Glass Interiors, and Lanny Window Fashion. From 2002 to 2004, he served as a Hunter Douglas Window Fashions service technician covering Southeast Texas. That role helped build the diagnostic and repair expertise that later became a major part of Shades or Shutters Medic.
Ryan also installed full-time for Budget Blinds from 2004 until 2009. When the housing market changed, he entered fire, EMS, and paramedic school while continuing window treatment work part-time. He went on to serve as a working paramedic for 16 years, responding to medical emergencies, fire calls, and crisis situations across many of the same northwest Houston communities he serves today.
That EMS background shaped Ryan’s approach to business. He is calm under pressure, methodical when solving problems, and patient with homeowners who need clear answers. It is also where the “Medic” in Shades or Shutters Medic comes from.
Ryan founded Shades or Shutters Medic in 2024 and stepped away from EMS in October 2025 to focus on the business full-time. Today, he specializes in custom blinds, shades, shutters, and repair service for existing window coverings throughout Tomball and the Greater Houston area.
